ISO 9001 ACCREDITATION

ISO 9001 accreditation is a globally recognized certification that signifies an organization’s commitment to maintaining quality management systems (QMS). Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a QMS that helps businesses ensure they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders while meeting statutory and regulatory requirements related to their product or service. Achieving ISO 9001 accreditation involves undergoing a comprehensive assessment by an accredited certification body, which verifies that the organization’s QMS conforms to the requirements outlined in the ISO 9001 standard.

Obtaining ISO 9001 accreditation offers numerous benefits to organizations. It enhances their reputation and credibility by demonstrating their dedication to delivering consistent, high-quality products or services. ISO 9001 certification can also lead to increased customer satisfaction, as it provides assurance that the organization has effective processes in place to meet customer requirements and address any issues that may arise. Additionally, ISO 9001 accreditation can improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and create a framework for continuous improvement, ultimately contributing to the long-term success and sustainability of the organization.

LMG New York offers ISO 9001 accreditation services across America.

ISO 9001 Accreditation and certification are often used interchangeably.  Accreditation bodies and certification bodies are involved in the ISO 9001 certification process. ISO 9001 accreditation is provided by accreditation bodies, whereas the certification is provided by certification bodies.

Being ISO 9001 Certified means that your organization’s quality management system meets the requirements of ISO 9001 Standard. This is done by a certification body after auditing your organization’s quality management system and processes against the latest ISO 9001 standard.

Regardless of the size of your organization, and the nature of your products or services, ISO 9001 accreditation (and certification) has huge advantages that enable your company to operate more efficiently and foster a culture of continuous improvement.  ISO 9001 Accreditation (and certification) is a statement to your customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders about the quality of the process, product, and services.

ISO 9001 accreditation and certification are essential factors of the ISO Quality Management System. There is a lot of confusion about the processes associated with each of them. They are similar in principle but differ in who does the job. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) creates standards known as quality management system standards. These are set of policies, procedures, and processes to guide organizations in offering goods and services that are safe, resilient, and meet customer requirements. Some ISO 9001 certification bodies secure their license to conduct certification audits and issue certificates from an ISO 9001 accreditation body. Others choose to work independently.

ISO 9001 ACCREDITATION VS ISO 9001 CERTIFICATION

According to ISO’s website, the difference between ISO 9001 accreditation and certification is:

ISO 9001 Accreditation

  • Accreditation – “The formal recognition by an independent body, generally known as an accreditation body, that a certification body operates according to international standards.”
  • Certification – “The provision by an independent body of written assurance (a certificate) that the product, service or system in question meets specific requirements.”

ISO 9001 CERTIFICATION BODIES
ISO 9001 certification bodies are third party conformity assessment bodies or registrars. They audit individual companies to see if their quality management system meets the ISO 9001 requirements. Certification bodies grant certification to organizations after successful completion of ISO 9001 Audit.

There are accredited and non-accredited certification bodies. You may use your due-diligence of evaluating certification bodies before choosing them by checking if they choose the relevant CASCO standard. However, to be accredited is neither mandatory nor are non-accredited certification bodies non-reputable. Accredited certification bodies in your county can be found by visiting the Internal Accreditation Forum (IAF).

ISO 9001 ACCREDITATION BODIES

ISO 9001 certification bodies are accredited by ISO 9001 accreditation bodies. The role of the Accreditation bodies is to provide accreditation to certification bodies. They do not provide certification to individual companies. There are several accreditation bodies around the globe. Some of them are a member of IAF and others are not. Some examples of these organizations are UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) in the UK and ANAB (ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board) in the USA.
